​An Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner provides input on a variety of neighborhood issues that include parking, street improvement, liquor licenses, zoning, economic development, police protection and traffic. ANC Commissioners hold the responsibility of making sure the residents within their single member districts are represented and their issues are addressed by various District government agencies, the Executive Branch, and the Council. Commissioners hold public office for a term of two years. The grassroots level of public engagement provided by ANC Commissioners is an unpaid service.​
